Established in October of 2000 and set in the historic Cotton Mill general store, Agave has been named the Best Southwestern Restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia.
This eclectic southwestern eatery appeals to a wide cross section of taste and styles while focusing on guest satisfaction in the high energy dining room & bar. The principal founder of Agave, Jack Sobel, is an accomplished restaurateur bringing over 20 years of restaurant and management experience to the business.
Agave opened for business on October 13, 2000 after an extensive restoration of a very old and historically important building which originally housed the general store for the Old Fulton Cotton and Bag Mill. The freestanding site had incredible potential to be transformed into a traditional New Mexican eatery and soon became an Atlanta favorite.
The Agave name originated from the numerous articles in 1999 about the big tequila shortage due to the over harvesting of agave plants in Mexico and Chef Jack Sobel ’s passion for fresh New Mexican – Southwestern Cuisine. Jack was taught to cook from his Sicilian Grandmother at an early age and then from Mexican & Navajo immigrants at the Cafe del Sol in Albuquerque.
After 22 years in the hospitality industry in 4 different cities, Jack decided to take a chance on a little run-down spot in Cabbagetown, far from his original roots in New Mexico . Agave ships its Hatch Green Chile and Red Chile in weekly from New Mexico and is committed to receiving all of its fresh product in daily in small quantities to ensure quality. Fresh squeezed lime juice is in all of our award winning margaritas and pick from 100 wines and 100 tequilas from the bar.
Our staff is equally important to us and by holding on to the same employees for many years, we have created a more consistent atmosphere to serve our guests. We hope dinner is enjoyable and it is always a pleasure!!!
